The British Army Chords And Lyrics ''The Dubliners'' Written by Ewan McColl with guitar chords by Marc Fahrbach. This is one of the easiest songs ever for a guitar player, just the two handy chords throughout the whole song. The writer Ewan McColl was himself in the British army, he joined in 1940 and stayed five months. His best known song was Dirty Old Town which he wrote 1946 for a play ''Landscapes And Chimneys'' about Salford Manchester. Ewan McColl recorded over 100 albums. He  wrote more protest songs during the 1950s and 60s that anybody in the folk buisness. Luke Kelly was inspired by Ewan McColl and recorded many of his songs with The Dubliners.

When (Am)I was young I used to be

As (G)fine a man as ever you'd see

Till the (Am)Prince of Wales he said to me:

"Come and join the (G)British (Am)army"

Chorus

(Am)Toora loora loora loo,

They're (G)looking for monkeys up at the zoo

And says (Am)I: "If I had a face like you,

I'd join the (G)British (Am)army"

Oh (Am)Sarah Conlon baked a cake,

'Twas (G)all for poor oul Slattery's sake

She (Am)threw herself into the lake,

Pretending (G)she was (Am)barmy

Chorus

(Am)Corporal Daly went away,

His (G)wife got in the family way

And the (Am)only thing that she could say,

Was: "Blame the (G)British (Am)army"

Chorus

(Am)Corporal Kelly's a terrible drought,

Just (G)give him a couple of jars of stout

And he'll (Am)beat the enemy with his mouth

And save the (G)British (Am)army

Chorus

(Am)Kilted soldiers wear no drawers,

(G)Won't you kindly lend them yours

The (Am)rich must always help the poor

To save the (G)British (Am)army

Chorus

When (Am)I was young I used to be

As (G)fine a man as ever you'd see

Till the (Am)Prince of Wales he said to me:

"Come and join the (G)British (Am)army"

(Am)Toora loora loora loo,

They're (G)looking for monkeys up at the zoo

And says (Am)I: "If I had a face like you,

I'd ... the (G)British (Am)army"
